SummaryThe Extension Assistant – Sik-E-Dakh Farm School (ISFS) will assist the Director and Extension Specialist in extension initiatives at the Sik-E-Dakh Farm School Program. The Extension Assistant will provide mentorship to Sik-E-Dakh Band members related to the production of organic crops and livestock. The extension assistant will be responsible for leading day-to-day farm tasks, ordering necessary farm supplies, and ensuring that farm machinery, equipment and tools are well maintained.
This position requires someone who lives in Hazelton area, able to travel and occasionally work on weekends as needed.
- Provide mentorship to Sik-E-Dakh Band members who participate in the Sik-E-Dakh Farm Program under the direction of the ISFS Director and Extension Specialist.
- Lead day-to-day mixed crop and livestock production at the Sik-E-Dakh farm school program site.
- Provide other support as required such as ordering farm supplies, farm accounting and site maintenance.
- Ensure that farm irrigation system, equipment, tools are well maintained in working order.
- Attend weekly meeting and provide updates to the Director and other team members.
- A Bachelor’s degree in relevant field such as sustainable agriculture or extensive professional experience in lieu
- 2+ years farming experience
- Demonstrated ability to work with Indigenous communities
- Highly developed organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work outside in all weather
- Interest in working with a diversity of people
- Valid First Aid Certificate an asset
- Class 5 driver’s license
- Access to a vehicle for commuting to and from the farm is an asset
Anticipated hourly pay rate: $28.77
