We engineer and assemble speed control equipment for a wide range of electric motor applications. In addition to VFDs, we also provide DC drives, soft starts, servo controls and PLC systems.

What

you will be doing

Arrow Speed Controls is seeking a highly skilled and versatile Application Engineer to support PLC/HMI programming, VFD repair, and field service commissioning activities. This role requires strong technical expertise in industrial automation, excellent troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work both independently and on-site at customer facilities.

Key Responsibilities PLC Programming & Automation
  • Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC programs (ladder logic, function block, structured text)
  • Work with platforms such as Mitsubishi Electric, Allen-Bradley (Rockwell Automation), and Siemens
  • Configure HMIs and SCADA systems
  • Perform I/O checks, loop testing, and system validation
  • Integrate PLCs with VFDs, sensors, and network systems (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, etc.)
VFD Repair & Diagnostics (Support only)
  • Diagnose and repair variable frequency drives, including brands like Mitsubishi Electric and Benshaw
  • Conduct testing, calibration, and load simulation
  • Complete capacitor reforming and preventative maintenance
  • Prepare detailed service and repair reports
Field Service & Commissioning
  • Commission new installations of VFDs, soft starters, and control panels
  • Perform startup, parameter setup, and system optimization
  • Execute site acceptance testing (SAT) and functional verification
  • Provide on-site troubleshooting and emergency support
  • Travel to customer sites as required (local and occasional out-of-town)
Customer Support & Documentation
  • Provide technical support to customers (remote and on-site)
  • Train customers on system operation and maintenance
  • Create commissioning reports, service documentation, and as-built updates
  • Support quotation and scope development for service jobs
What we need from you Education
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, and/or Automation Controls
  • P.Eng registration is an asset
Experience
  • 5+ years in industrial automation or drives service
  • Hands‑on experience with PLC/HMI programming and VFD troubleshooting
  • Experience in commissioning industrial control systems
Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of PLC platforms (Mitsubishi, Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, etc.)
  • Experience with VFD parameterization and motor control systems is an asset.
  • Understanding of industrial communication protocols:
    • Ethernet/IP
    • Modbus TCP/RTU
    • Profibus / Profinet
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and control drawings
  • Familiarity with test equipment (multimeter, oscilloscope, megger)
Soft Skills
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical thinking
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects
  • Organized with attention to detail
Other Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel
  • Ability to work in industrial environments
  • Flexibility for after‑hours or emergency service calls
