Since then, it has expanded rapidly and is now Canada’s largest Asian supermarket chain with 37 stores across the country: 14 in BC, 7 in Alberta, 14 in Ontario, and 2 in Quebec. The RoleReporting to the Financial Controller, the Senior Manager, Financial Accounting plays a key supporting role in overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance for T&T US. This position assists the Financial Controller (FC) in implementing financial processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting, maintaining internal controls, and driving continuous improvement.
This is a hands‑on, growth‑oriented role suited for a professional who aspires to advance into a Financial Controller position in the future. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong sense of ownership, adaptability, and a drive for success in a fast‑paced, dynamic, and start‑up–like food retail environment.
Accounting Operations- Assist the Financial Controller in managing day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, fixed assets, and inventory.
- Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and month‑end closing activities.
- Support the preparation of financial statements and corporate tax reports.
- Help establish and enhance accounting processes, controls, and documentation standards.
- Collaborate with T&T Canada and LCL teams to ensure consistent accounting practices and reporting accuracy.
- Support cash flow monitoring, fund transfers, and treasury coordination.
- Support internal and external audit processes by providing documentation and explanations.
- Ensure compliance with tax filings, including sales and use tax reporting.
- Assist in preparing financial analysis and variance reports for management review.
- Maintain adherence to company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Partner with the FC to identify process gaps, design workflow improvements, and automate routine tasks.
- Assist in ERP system implementation and optimization projects.
- Support in the development of new tools and templates to improve reporting accuracy and efficiency.
- Act as a key point of contact for cross‑functional teams (Operations, Merchandising, Supply Chain, HR, Treasury, Administration, etc.) to resolve accounting and reporting matters.
- Provide guidance to junior accounting staff and contribute to team development.
- Take initiative to expand knowledge of financial leadership responsibilities, preparing for potential advancement to Financial Controller in the future.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- CPA designation (or candidate for Common Final Examination [CFE]).
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within retail, consumer goods, or distribution industries.
- Good understanding of US GAAP, IFRS and internal control principles.
- Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, macros).
- Exceptional analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational abilities.
- Effective communication and presentation skills; capable of explaining financial concepts to non‑finance teams.
- Strong sense of success, flexibility, and initiative — thrives in a fast‑paced, dynamic, start‑up‑like food retail environment.
- Fluent in English; and able to understand, speak and read Mandarin or Cantonese is an asset.
