Intent of the process

Successful candidates will be placed in an SC-DED-02 pool of candidates and may be hired for casual employment for a training program at the SC-DED-02, Seaman/Public Safety Diving Trainee, level in order to obtain the CCG Diver Qualification (course is approximately 3 months in length). Those successful in completing the training program will be placed in an SC-SPT-03 pool of candidates and may be considered for term or indeterminate appointments to the SC-SPT-03, Public Safety Diver – Deckhand, working level.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION

All Streams:

  • Civilian Recreational Open Water Diver
  • Canadian Forces / DND Ships Diver
  • Occupational Diver Certification
  • Marine Emergency Duties STCW – Basic Safety**
  • Marine Emergency Duties STCW – Survival Craft**
  • Marine First Aid (can be Marine Basic First Aid, Marine Advanced First Aid, Occupational First Aid Level 3, or higher)**
  • Restricted Operator Certificate ─ Maritime Commercial (ROC-MC)
    **** required before the commencement of Diver Training Intake

Experience

All Streams:

  • Experience with recreational or commercial boating.
  • Experience in recreational, government, or commercial diving.

Applied / assessed at a later date

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Stream 2:

  • Diver Certification Board of Canada Certification Restricted Surface Supplied Diver

ABILITIES

Stream 2:

  • Ability to operate deck machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to swim and function unaided in open water conditions in emergency or stressful situations. (

    Note:

    This will be assessed with a practical exercise in a deep water pool).
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally.
