Job Summary
Come work as Occupational Therapy Site/Unit Educator at Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as part of the team at Richmond Hospital.

Within the context of a client and family-centred framework and in accordance with established standards of professional practice and the vision, values and policies of the organization, including Indigenous Cultural Safety, cultural humility and anti-racism principles, works in a team-based environment and is charged with providing discipline specific clinical support, training and education to designated staff for the designated program area a majority of the time.

Plans, implements, and evaluates site educational programs to support access and flow and meet the needs of the clinicians and site. Provides training and at the elbow support; provides education on the use of equipment, therapeutic procedures, and discharge planning processes. Works under the direction of the Manager and/or Clinical Operations Supervisor to set the priorities of the designated program.

Collaborates with the Regional Clinical Education team, Regional Educator for Occupational Therapy, and other educators across VCH to ensure alignment of best practices for educational theory and remain connected with developing best practices in the profession. Collaborates with the Professional Practice and Clinical Education team to ensure awareness of best practice evidence and newly emerging practices and engage with subject matter experts as appropriate.

Maintains and updates own knowledge of clinical and professional practice, including hands-on clinical competencies by working directly with patients, clients, residents.

Qualifications
Education & Experience

Degree in Occupational Therapy, five (5) years' recent, related broad Occupational Therapy experience in a variety of practice areas.

Completion of a professional instructional program for teaching.

Experience creating educational materials, implementing education strategies, utilizing knowledge translation abilities, and experience mentoring students, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Current full registration as an Occupational Therapist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Comprehensive knowledge of organization policies, legislation, procedures, and standards of care.

Comprehensive knowledge of Occupational Therapy theory and practice within a client and family centred model of care.

Broad knowledge of the established provincial standards of practice and guidelines for clinical practitioners.

Broad knowledge of Adult education theory, and recognized experience with curriculum and instructional design principles and practices.

Broad knowledge of tele-health and technology-based learning.

Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.

Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.

Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.

Demonstrated ability to develop and construct effective and dynamic education modules.

Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, facilitate and teach.

Demonstrated ability in education strategies.

Demonstrated ability to promote a creative learning environment.

Demonstrated ability to promote a culture of enquiry and evidence-based practice.

Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing and deal effectively with, co-workers, physicians, other health care staff, patients and their circle of care, and outside agencies.

Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

Computer literacy related to tele-health and technology-based learning; and with spreadsheet and database skills.

Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
