Vancouver Coastal Heath’s Respectful Workplace policy is supported by the People Operations and Employee Wellness teams in collaboration with VCH operations managers and directors, and provides support options for employees who experience or witness disrespectful behavior and or conduct, bullying, harassment, dissimilatory harassment, and conflict, within the workplace. At its foundation, and in keeping with Worksafe BC legislation, is the right to work in an environment that is free from disrespectful behaviour, bullying and harassment.
As a Respectful Workplace Advisor with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:
- Be responsible for conducting a high volume of workplace investigations and providing Respectful Workplace Education to leaders, employees and medical staff across VCH.
- Be responsible for fact finding and conducting respectful workplace investigations in a manner that is respectful, fair, impartial, and consistent in a manner that ensures compliance with legislative requirements and various collective agreements.
- Apply a consistent, fair and unbiased approach when dealing with complaints of workplace incivility, bullying and harassment, discrimination and discriminatory harassment, and all other complaints of workplace misconduct that fall under VCH’s Respectful Workplace and Human Rights Policy.

QualificationsEducation & Experience
- Degree in a relevant discipline such as Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration, or other relevant social science discipline, supplemented with 3 years’ recent, related experience in conflict investigation and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, preferably in a health care or other complex unionized setting or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Completion of an accredited Mediation Skills, Conflict Coaching and/or Workplace Conflict course(s) as well as relevant certifications care considered assets to the role.
- Valid BC Driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes.
Knowledge & Abilities
- A proficiency and passion for conducting respectful workplace investigations and experience ensuring a fair process for all complainants and respondents
- Experience conducting workplace investigations related to racism, discrimination and other complaints that fall under the BC Human Rights Code
- Demonstrated ability in investigative procedures, interviewing, report writing, and applying sound judgment, best practices, policy and legislation to make informed decisions
- Ability to manage a large caseload of investigations
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization and in a complex multi-union environment
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
- Demonstrated strong and respectful communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to identify opportunities to coach and educate managers and employees on respectful workplace concepts, behavioural expectations and impact to staff & culture
- Excellent conflict resolution, facilitation and/or mediation skills
- Ability to present Respectful Workplace Education both online and in person
- Practices the recognition, inclusion and support of all types and aspects of diversity at all stages of engagement, with an understanding of the issues and lived experienced of people from equity-seeking groups
