Overview

Founded and based in Richmond, BC, Canada, Ideon Technologies uses the energy from supernova explosions in space to image deep beneath the Earth’s surface. The company is a world pioneer in cosmic-ray muon tomography and has developed the REVEAL™ Subsurface Intelligence Platform™, comprising an advanced suite of proprietary data-generation hardware, software, AI-powered services, and multi-physics fusion that provide x-ray-like visibility deep underground and unlock the exponential power of integrated spatial data.

By transforming muon data into reliable 3D density maps, Ideon helps geologists identify, map, characterize, and monitor mineral deposits with confidence. This reduces risk and cost of traditional methods, while saving time, optimizing return, and minimizing environmental impact across the mining value chain. Ideon is a dynamic tech scale-up of 70 employees (and growing), entrepreneurial by nature, focused on delivering great customer outcomes, and committed to seeking out the best brains and exceptional humans from diverse backgrounds.

The Role

We are seeking a Geoscientific Analyst with strong geoscience expertise, advanced data science skills, and excellent Python to scale and optimize Ideon’s geoscience workflows. You’ll work at the intersection of geoscience, data engineering, and scientific computing, supporting muon tomography, inversion, and end-to-end workflow development.

You understand both geoscience and data science, write high-quality Python, and can work with complex models and datasets. You like automating and improving scientific workflows, use AI tools and modern development practices day to day, and collaborate well across science and software teams.

Reporting to the Manager, Geosciences, you’ll partner with geoscientists, applied scientists, physicists, software developers, and data scientists to improve how geophysical and geological data are processed, managed, and analyzed across Ideon’s subsurface imaging workflows.

You’ll optimize data pipelines, strengthen geoscience modelling notebooks, and bring AI-assisted workflows into Ideon’s scientific process. You’ll help ensure geoscience data and inversion workflows are scalable, reproducible, efficient, and well-structured for customer delivery and internal research.

You will drive Ideon’s objectives forward by focusing on the following activities:

Data Science & Workflow Optimization

  • Design and optimize Python-based data pipelines for geoscience and geophysical datasets
  • Improve data management, organization, and reproducibility across geoscience workflows
  • Develop and maintain scalable Jupyter notebook frameworks for processing and analysis
  • Optimize inversion and forward modelling notebooks for performance, reliability, and maintainability
  • Refactor existing scientific code into modular, maintainable, and reusable components

Geoscience Data Processing

  • Work with large geoscience datasets including muon tomography, geophysical survey data, geological models, and time-series datasets
  • Support the geoscience team in automating data processing, model generation, and visualization workflows
  • Improve computational efficiency of geoscience modelling workflows through parallelization, vectorization, and optimized algorithms
  • Implement reproducible workflows for data QC, feature extraction, and model preparation

AI & Advanced Analytics

  • Integrate AI-assisted tools and machine learning techniques into geoscience data workflows
  • Use modern AI coding tools and automation methods to accelerate development of scientific workflows
  • Explore opportunities for machine learning, statistical modelling, and pattern recognition in geoscience datasets
  • Develop tools to support automated model diagnostics, anomaly detection, and uncertainty analysis
  • Serve as a bridge between geoscience, R&D, and software teams
  • Translate scientific workflow requirements into efficient and scalable computational solutions
  • Support integration of geoscience workflows into internal software platforms and applications
  • Help establish best practices for scientific computing, version control, and reproducible research
