In British Columbia, mNPRs are developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the BC Nurses’ Union (BCNU) and health organizations.

Salary Details

CAD $32.84/Hr.

Job Summary

Working within an interdisciplinary clinical framework in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) Standards of Practice for a Licensed Practical Nurse and consistent with the mission, vision and values and established protocols of Vancouver Coastal Health, the LPN works closely with the Care team including:
Registered Nurse, Psychiatric Triage Nurse, Emergency Physician, Psychiatrist, Security, etc. in direct care activities such as assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating interventions, and coordinating health services for the designated medical client group of the Emergency Department. Participates in discharge and/or care planning, functions as a client advocate, and teaches clients and their families about illness/injury and overall health promotion and wellness.

Enhances quality of life from the perspective of the client/family. Establishes, maintains, and enhances therapeutic relationships based on respect. Provides care to clients and families based on stable and/or predictable states of health by initiating and following established plans of care. Recognizes and responds to unexpected client outcomes by communicating and collaborating with other members of the healthcare team. Documents care provided and responds to incidents in accordance with established policies, procedures, and Emergency Department expectations.

Consults, confers, and collaborates with other health care providers as needed.

About the Richmond Hospital Emergency Department

Our ED sees over 70,000 patients a year, servicing Richmond and the lower half of Vancouver. With 125 patient care spaces, the ED is divided into triage, acute care, DTU, pediatrics, and lower-acuity zones.

Richmond Hospital ED offers a unique practice, from birth to end of life services, walk-in traumas, stabilization and transfers, and much more.

Teamwork and support are at the forefront of the Richmond Hospital ED. We foster an environment where we are always learning, giving each other feedback, growing our practice through mentorship, and having open communication with all interdisciplinary team members. The leadership team is very present and available 24/7, with a Clinical Resource Nurse and Head Nurse on shift every day of the week.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses and one (1) year of recent experience working in a related area of care.
  • Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practice Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability in nursing practice related to caring for the designated medical client group in the Emergency Department (e.g. including but not limited to patients with complex disease; acute/ chronic Disease Management; Mental health and substance use issues).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of pathophysiology related to common diagnosis related to designated client group (e.g. Malignancies/Cancers;
    Acute/Chronic Respiratory Illness/disease;
    Acute/Chronic Renal Failure, Acute/Chronic Hepatic Failure; GI illness/diseases; Chronic Wounds, Orthopedic injuries/conditions; Mental health and substance use issues).
