Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is proud to be part of the provincial implementation of minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs), an initiative aimed at enhancing nursing practice and strengthening quality of care across the health system. mNPRs set the minimum number of nurses providing care to patients on a given unit. In British Columbia, mNPRs are developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the BC Nurses’ Union (BCNU) and health organizations.

Salary Details
The salary range for this position is CAD $41.42/Hr.

TRAINING OPPORTUNITY
BCIT Emergency Nursing Specialty ProgramBCIT On Site Orientation Day:  November 19, 2026

BCIT Workshop Days:  November 30, December 1, December 3, and December 4, 2026 Online

Prerequisites:  November 30, 2026 - March 30, 2027. Full-time training at BCIT & practicum locations:  May 3, 2027 - July 26, 2027
* course dates will be modified based on previous courses completed, VCH only funds for required courses.

Note:

Eligibility for the post-basic training education is prioritized to applicants with approximately one years recent acute medical/surgical experience upon critical care program full-time start date.

Applicants must successfully complete the post-basic training education prior to working in the Department.

Candidates accepting this training opportunity agree to remain with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a regular status nurse in the area of nursing applicable to the education program for which they are hired for at least 18 months subsequent to completing training.

This will ensure that candidates are able to consolidate and apply skills in the specialty area that VCH has supported and funded candidates to complete. In the event that a candidate leaves the area of nursing applicable to the education program for which they were hired or VCH in under 18 months, VCH will seek to recover the cost of the program.

Job Summary
Practices within the context of a patient and family centred care model and in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice for registered nurses and code of ethics and the vision and values of the organization. Provides emergency nursing to patients of all ages presenting with a wide variety of symptoms within an uncontrolled environment and to unique patient populations such as victims of sexual assault.

As a triage nurse, assesses patient needs and prioritises care requirements often with limited information. As member of emergency response team, stabilises and resuscitates multi-trauma victims, prepares for and responds to disaster situations. Enhances quality of life from the perspective of the patient/family. Consults, confers, and collaborates with other healthcare givers. Demonstrates expertise and leadership in nursing practice. Maintains and advances clinical competence.

Participates on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.

About the Richmond Hospital Emergency Department

Our ED sees over 70,000 patients a year, servicing Richmond and the lower half of Vancouver. With 125 patient care spaces, the ED is divided into triage, acute care, DTU, pediatrics, and lower-acuity zones.

Richmond Hospital ED offers a unique practice, from birth to end of life services, walk-in traumas, stabilization and transfers, and much more.

Teamwork and support are at the forefront of the Richmond Hospital ED. We foster an environment where we are always learning, giving each other feedback, growing our practice through mentorship, and having open communication with all interdisciplinary team members. The leadership team is very present and available 24/7, with a Clinical Resource Nurse and Head Nurse on shift every day of the week.

Qualifications
Education & Experience

Current practising registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
