Position: SRCE-26-560, Bus Driver

Role

To drive a school bus on an assigned bus route in the Inverness County area. (Route 221) Currently serving Loch Lomond Road, Hwy 4, Soldier's Cove, Lynches River Road, Grenville Street, Denys Street, Chaple Island to East Richmond Education Centre & Richmond Education Centre/Academy.

Responsibilities
  • Operate a school bus in accordance with all safety standards prescribed by the laws of the Province of Nova Scotia and SRCE policies and procedures.
  • Perform pre‑trip inspections at the beginning of each work day.
  • Perform pre‑trip inspections prior to extra/co‑curricular trips.
  • Complete all transportation‑related forms as required (Hours of Work, Route & Passenger Sheets, Daily Inspection Sheets, etc.).
  • Maintain discipline on school buses and follow SRCE policy and procedures of incidents on buses.
  • Report all accidents in accordance with SRCE policy and procedure.
  • Keep the inside and outside of the bus clean in accordance with SRCE standards.
  • Report mechanical problems to the appropriate designate.
  • Operate the school bus in accordance with the route plan and schedule.
  • Attend all Driver In‑services provided by SRCE.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications
  • Minimum class 2B or 2C license with air brake endorsement.
  • Proven ability to deal effectively with students on the bus, gained through experience or SRCE‑sponsored training program.
  • High school completion or equivalent in experience and training.
  • Four months driving experience as a professional school bus driver.
  • Current First Aid or willingness to obtain prior to employment.
  • Current Non‑violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Certification would be considered an asset.
  • Commercial Safety College courses or related safety courses would be considered an asset.
  • Successful completion of the SRCE‑sponsored casual bus driver training program or completion of a recognized professional driver training program.
  • Must provide a current clear Criminal Record Check – Vulnerable Sector and Child Abuse Registry.
