Reporting to the Head of Elementary, the learning strategist teacher works collegially within the team to support the school’s vision, mission and philosophy; support the school’s curricular and philosophical commitments as a welcoming Montessori/IB School; and with its commitment to the whole child. The learning strategist teacher works with the Academic Heads to ensure that the school’s curriculum provides a safe, supportive learning environment for students, teachers and all other members of the Lauremont School community.

The learning strategist teacher helps promote a culture where diversity is encouraged and students learn to respect differences, take responsibility for their actions, exercise leadership and strive for academic excellence.

The expectations and outcomes of teachers vary somewhat when teachers do not incur full-time responsibility for a classroom and its activities unless otherwise stated (e.g. lesson plan responsibilities). However, teachers are expected to fulfill the role of replacement teacher and/or support teacher in a manner that is exemplary in all areas.

#1 Responsibilities
  • Develops and maintains a program that supports academic, personal and social-emotional development for all students
  • Administers benchmark assessments and uses data to identify and support areas of strength and potential growth
  • Reads and interprets psycho-educational assessments to create and maintain Individual Instruction Plans for all identified students
  • Collaborates with key stakeholders to create an action plan that meets individual student needs, promoting trust, understanding and partnership with parents, teachers and students
  • Advocates for equity amongst all students to ensure the curriculum and school activities are accessible to all
  • Identifies, facilitates and encourages professional development for staff to improve the academic success of students
  • Mentors and models best practices in the classrooms; promotes an awareness of and responsiveness to learning styles and individual needs
  • Provides one-on-one or small group instruction to students in the classroom and/or the Learning Strategies Room
  • Shows a strong understanding of the Montessori program to provide appropriate support and strategies to students and teachers
  • Helps to create an environment that is inviting, inclusive, respectful and supportive
  • Understands the diverse needs of students by providing appropriate and varied strategies and support
  • Creates and implements Transition Plans for students who are new to the school and for students moving between divisions
  • Demonstrates sound judgment reflecting integrity, honesty, fairness and trustworthiness, and protects student confidentiality.
  • Develops and maintains a standard of professional behaviour, within and beyond the classroom, which exemplifies Montessori and International Baccalaureate principles
  • Promotes and creates a collegial and supportive environment with co-teachers and teachers from other grade levels
  • Establishes and maintains an orderly and attractive school environment in accordance with Montessori and International Baccalaureate principles
