Our client is a fast-growing technology company.

Position Scope:
The Technical Sales Engineer will provide deep technical/application support to the outside sales team, qualify opportunities and design solution proposals for melt-shop, casting, reheat, and ladle equipment. This role includes driving technical closes, leading field trials and handoff to service.

Responsibilities:

Analyze customer requirements and provide solutions by working with the Engineering Department to create proposals

Provide technical support directly to customers on the products and their applications

Participate in sales presentations to customers

Provide internal technical support to Production and Sales & Marketing

Perform system level design work for complex custom orders

Participate in market/competitive product research and reporting activities

Provide input and occasionally participate in new product development activities, as well as design maintenance on existing product lines

Identify product improvements, or new products by remaining current on industry trends, market activities, and competitors

Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks, benchmarking state of the art practices; participating in professional societies

Occasionally participate in field service work or onsite technical support for sales

Occasionally participate in Trade shows

Act as technical lead for sales opportunities in melt shop, reheat, casting, ladles (EAFs, reheat furnaces, continuous casters, ladles, related instrumentation)

Support outside sales reps on calls, RFQs, technical proposals, demos and factory/field acceptance tests

Generate solution drawings, high-level layouts; work with engineering to scope detailed designs

Own first-line troubleshooting for customer trials and installations; coordinate service/engineering remediation

Deliver product/application trainings to customers and sales

Convert technical wins into revenue: prepare technical appendices for proposals and respond to RFI/RFQ

Develop relationships with key customer technical contacts (metallurgists, maintenance, process engineering)

Required Skills and Knowledge:

Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented

Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and documentation skills.

Excellent analytical, problem solving and time management skills

Basic understanding of computer networking, programming, electronic circuits & principles

Ability to create/interpret technical drawings (CAD familiarity desirable)

Safe work practices and ability to pass plant safety training

Project management/small job management experience is considered a strong asset

Willingness to travel 10–20% (domestic, US, & occasional international)

Education and Experience:

Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, or related field or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience

Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with electrical systems in heavy industrial environments (steelmaking, manufacturing, or similar)

Experience working in the Steel Making or Foundry Industry, Glass or Cement Manufacturing, would be considered an asset

Strong customer-facing experience (supporting sales/field trials)

Technical experience in steel mill melt-shop / casting / furnace equipment or equivalent industrial furnace/metallurgy environment is considered a strong asset

Experience working in a fast-paced engineering environment with limited supervision

Experience using an MRP/ERP System

Ability to read and understand technical drawings

Experience with analog, digital, and thermal camera systems is considered an asset

Experience with optics and lasers is considered an asset

Experience with optoelectronic instrumentation is considered an asset

Prior experience bridging sales & engineering is considered a strong asset

PLC/HMI fundamentals, instrumentation knowledge is considered an asset

Experience with quotation/configuration systems and CRM is considered an asset
