We are seeking a Mid-level Mechanical Engineer who is willing to become part of a team responsible for developing, testing and documenting new lab automation machines. You must do things thoroughly and in a logical, orderly manner. Creativity and attention to detail are necessary for success in this position. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a team environment, self-motivated and have a good understanding of new product development.
Responsibilities:- Work with the engineering team to design and develop new lab automation machines (liquid handling workstation, qPCR, orbital shaker, thermoelectric cooler, etc.).
- Research and generate conceptual design.
- Evaluate the different concepts to select a good one.
- Detail your chosen design down to 3D model of mechanical components and assemblies.
- Analyze, calculate and simulate your design to be confident it will work.
- Create 2D engineering drawings (with GD&T and BOMs) for manufacturing.
- Coordinate and assist with parts machining and purchasing.
- Must be hands-on; assemble, troubleshoot, debug, and qualify subsystems and components. Resolve design issues as appropriate.
- Develop the required documentations during the development and for transfer to production.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent program.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in mechanical design of robotics automation or medical device.
- Knowledge of engineering principles, practices and procedures.
- Strong grasps of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance methods (GD&T) in creating component and assembly detail drawings.
- An understanding of manufacturing and machining processes, electronic and thermodynamics principles.
- Able to work hands-on with models and prototypes.
- Problem-solving and project management skills.
- Eligible to travel outside Canada.
- Proficient with Solid Works software.
- Proficient in verbal and written English.
This full-time employment position is subject to a 3-month probation period.
Compensation
- Salary $60,000 /year
- Performance-based bonus at the end of each year
- Group extended healthcare insurance (after probation period)
