HDR is seeking a Senior Site Civil Engineer to join the growing Site-Civil team with Building Engineering Services (BES) group in Canada. Senior Site Civil Engineer serves as a key technical leader on our site development engineering team. This is a hands-on technical role where you will have the opportunity to lead the design on a wide variety of complex site development projects, from initial site evaluation through development of construction documents, permitting, and construction.

You will serve as a technical expert, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality site civil projects for our clients.

In the role of Senior Civil Engineer, we'll count on you to:

Lead initial site evaluation, including the research of zoning and land development permitting requirements for local and state agencies.
Lead the technical design and plan production for site development projects, including site layouts, grading, drainage, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, and utilities.
Perform site civil engineering calculations and generate associated calculation reports.
Prepare and review technical specifications, contract documents, and cost estimates.
Perform complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures
Lead land development permitting processes with AHJ’s.
Serve as a technical expert, exercising judgment in the evaluation and application of advanced engineering techniques to solve complex challenges.
Delegate tasks to and mentor junior engineering staff and technicians while working together on project teams.
Coordinate directly with clients, permitting authorities, project managers, and multidisciplinary design teams to ensure technical excellence and project success.
Serve as a project manager as needed, although project management is not the sole focus of this position.
Perform other duties as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience using AI productivity tools to accelerate project work streams including technical writing, code and specification research, and performance simulation and modelling
Ability to rigorously audit, validate, and verify all AI-generated outputs (examples: technical correspondence and code interpretations) against core engineering fundamentals and regulations
Project experience with land entitlement and development processes locally and in other surrounding areas.

Experience with site development design and construction plan development.
