Overview and Purpose of the Role
Reporting to the Manager, Diagnostic Imaging, the RIS PACS Administrator is responsible for the support, maintenance, optimization, and operation of Diagnostic Imaging information systems, including RIS, PACS, and associated clinical imaging applications. The role supports diagnostic imaging workflows, including image acquisition, storage, distribution, reporting, and system integration with hospital information systems. The incumbent will provide system administration, troubleshooting, workflow optimization, training, and project support while collaborating closely with clinical teams, vendors, and technical partners to ensure efficient and reliable imaging informatics services.
KeyDuties & Responsibilities Imaging Systems Administration & Support
- Administer, maintain, and support PACS, RIS, voice recognition, and associated imaging applications
- Monitor system performance, data integrity, image routing, archiving, retrieval, and distribution workflows
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to DICOM, HL7 interfaces, modality connectivity, and system integrations
- Support integration between imaging systems and hospital information systems (HIS/EMR)
- Manage patient and exam data corrections within PACS and RIS
- Collaborate with radiologists, technologists, physicians, and clinical teams to optimize imaging workflows and reporting processes
- Support workflow enhancements, hanging protocols, quality assurance activities, and operational reporting
- Identify and resolve workflow, imaging, and reporting discrepancies
- Support compliance with applicable provincial reporting and regulatory requirements
- Work collaboratively with IT teams, vendors, and external partners to maintain stable system performance and connectivity
- Support system upgrades, patches, testing, implementations, and technology enhancements
- Assist with imaging data exchange initiatives and interoperability requirements.
- Maintain compatibility between imaging modalities, RIS, PACS, and enterprise applications
- Monitor system logs, backups, archival processes, and disaster recovery procedures
- Maintain documentation, inventory records, user guides, and standard operating procedures
- Ensure compliance with hospital IT, cybersecurity, DICOM, and HL7 standards
- Provide training and support to physicians, radiologists, technologists, and staff on imaging systems and workflows
- Support onboarding, workflow redesign, digital initiatives, and imaging informatics projects
- Participate in requirements gathering, testing, implementation planning, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Perform cross-functional duties and other related responsibilities as assigned
- Participate in all mandatory training requirements and work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, company Policies and Procedures, as well as established industry guidelines
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Health Informatics, Computer Science, Engineering, Health Sciences, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- PACS Administrator certification or Certified Imaging Informatics Professional (CIIP) designation is preferred
- Minimum of 3–5 years of related experience supporting PACS, RIS, or healthcare imaging informatics systems
- Experience with Meditech Expanse, Philips PACS, and third‑party radiology applications (e.g., Power Scribe, syngo.via, DynaCAD) is considered an asset
- Strong knowledge of DICOM, HL7, diagnostic imaging workflows, and imaging modalities
- Experience with SQL, Oracle, database querying, reporting, and data analysis
- Knowledge of HIS/EMR integrations and provincial reporting systems (e.g., WTIS, OHIP billing, OLIS) is considered an asset
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills with the ability to resolve moderately complex technical and operational issues
