Overview and Purpose of the Role

Reporting to the Manager, Diagnostic Imaging, the RIS/PACS Analyst provides advanced operational, analytical, and technical support for Diagnostic Imaging information systems, including RIS, PACS, Enterprise Imaging, voice recognition, and associated clinical imaging applications.

The incumbent is responsible for supporting, configuring, monitoring, optimizing, and enhancing Diagnostic Imaging information systems to ensure the integrity, availability, performance, and reliability of imaging workflows across the organization. The role serves as a technical resource for Diagnostic Imaging by providing expertise in clinical workflows, imaging informatics, system integrations, workflow optimization, data integrity, reporting, testing, and implementation of new technologies.

Working collaboratively with radiologists, physicians, technologists, Information Technology, clinical leaders, vendors, and external partners, the RIS/PACS Systems Analyst supports enterprise imaging initiatives, continuous quality improvement, and digital transformation projects while ensuring compliance with organizational, provincial, and regulatory standards.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Imaging Informatics Systems Support

  • Provide operational and technical support for RIS, PACS, Enterprise Imaging, voice recognition, and associated clinical imaging applications.
  • Configure and maintain application settings, workflow rules, user access, and system parameters while ensuring application availability, performance, and data integrity.
  • Monitor system performance, interfaces, image routing, workflow queues, and archival processes, proactively identifying and resolving operational issues.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues involving RIS/PACS, DICOM, HL7, Enterprise Imaging platforms, imaging modalities, and system integrations, coordinating resolution with IT and vendors as required.
  • Support secure image exchange and interoperability with regional repositories and provincial digital health platforms, including OCINet, HDIRS, Connecting Ontario, and other applicable health information exchange initiatives.
  • Perform patient and examination reconciliation activities, ensuring data quality, system integrity, and compliance with organizational standards

Workflow Optimization & System Integration

  • Analyze and optimize Diagnostic Imaging workflows to improve efficiency, quality, and user experience.
  • Collaborate with clinical stakeholders to evaluate workflow requirements and recommend application configuration and process improvements.
  • Support integration between RIS, PACS, Enterprise Imaging, HIS/EMR, imaging modalities, and third-party clinical applications utilizing DICOM and HL7 standards.
  • Participate in system implementations, upgrades, migrations, workflow redesign, and enterprise imaging initiatives.
  • Liaise with Information Technology, clinical leaders, applications team, external vendors, and regional partners to support interoperability and digital health initiatives.
  • Develop, analyze, and interpret operational, utilization, quality, and performance reports to support departmental decision-making.
  • Monitor data quality, investigate discrepancies, perform root cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support provincial reporting requirements, including WTIS, OHIP, and other applicable reporting initiatives.
  • Lead or coordinate user acceptance testing (UAT), system validation, and implementation activities for new functionality and upgrades.
  • Participate in quality improvement, lean initiatives, accreditation activities, and continuous improvement projects.

Education & Stakeholder Support

  • Provide technical guidance, education, and ongoing support to radiologists, physicians, technologists, clerical staff, and learners.
  • Develop and maintain user guides, workflow documentation, standard operating procedures, and training materials.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for Diagnostic Imaging information systems and clinical imaging workflows.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with internal departments, external partners, and vendors to support effective service delivery.
  • Contribute to implementation planning, change management activities and other duties as assigned.

Education, Skills &

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in Health Informatics, Health Sciences, Medical Radiation Sciences, Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Analysis, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 2-4 years of demonstrated experience supporting RIS, PACS, Enterprise Imaging, healthcare applications, or clinical information systems within a Diagnostic Imaging environment.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting application configuration, workflow optimization, system testing, implementation activities, and issue resolution.
