POSITION TITLE:

Middle/High School Custodial Crew Leader

REPORTS TO:

Principal, Maintenance Supervisor

BEGINNING DATE:

Open Until Filled

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

REQUIRED:

Considerable knowledge of custodial work and associated supplies, materials, and equipment.

Working knowledge of repairs and maintenance.

Ability to supervise other custodians.

Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with a variety of people.

  • Ability to estimate long-range requirements for custodial personnel, supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Must have adequate computer skills.
  • Must be able to maintain simple clerical records and equipment.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

Experience in custodial work; minimum of 3-5 years of work experience in Onslow County Schools is highly preferred.

High school diploma or equivalence.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:

12 Months

SALARY:

Salary Grade 56

FLSA Status:

Non-Exempt

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Explains and/or demonstrates work procedures to custodians and other employees.
  • Provides in-service training for custodians and other employees.
  • Assigns custodians to work areas and duties.
  • Makes rounds to determine if work stations are manned.
  • Inspects work of custodians.
  • Ensures correction of deficiencies discovered during inspections.
  • Maintains simple clerical records of supplies and personnel information.
  • Notes needs to repair or replace equipment and submits notice to supervisor.
  • Requisition s cleaning supplies and materials.
  • Scrubs, dusts, sweeps, mops, vacuums, waxes and polishes floors in rooms, hallways and closets.
  • Dusts and arranges furniture.
  • Washes windows, woodwork, walls and other surfaces.
  • Scrubs and cleans rest room fixtures.
  • Replenishes tissue, towels, and soap in rest rooms, kitchens and classroom facilities.
  • Empties wastebaskets and other trash receptacles.
  • Locks and unlocks doors.
  • Sorts and stores material for recycling program.
  • Picks up paper and other trash in school building or on school grounds.
  • Adheres to mandated uniform procedures.
  • Responsible for emergency lights and exit lights, monthly test.
  • Responsible for weekly fuel oil readings when and where applicable.
  • Responsible for the inspection and replacement of damaged or discolored ceiling tiles.
  • Responsible for the monthly fire extinguisher inspection.
  • Performs other duties as specified by the Principal, Maintenance Supervisor, or designee.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to lift moderate to heavy weight (40-100 pounds), stand, walk, run, bend, stoop, push, pull, reach, and climb ladders, for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds routinely and 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to reach with hands and arms routinely and to carry furniture (such as tables, chairs, supplies and materials).
  • Ability to maintain composure in difficult situations.
  • Must be able to drive to a variety of school sites.
  • Must be able to facilitate the evacuation of students during emergency situations and/or drills.
