Overview and Purpose of the Role
The PACU Team Leader is responsible for coordinating the daily operations of the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) at Schroeder Ambulatory Centre, ensuring safe, high-quality recovery for patients following outpatient surgeries and procedures. As a clinical expert at the point of care, you will lead by example—managing a partial patient assignment while overseeing unit workflow, staff mentorship, and patient safety.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Patient Flow Management:
- Minimize delays and optimize schedule efficiency by communicating effectively with surgeons and anesthesia providers, and other clinical team members.
Clinical Oversight:
- Act as a senior clinical resource, addressing urgent care issues and supporting complex recovery decision-making.
Operational Leadership:
- Manage daily staffing assignments, monitor workload distribution, and coordinate smooth transfer of accountability between the OR, PACU and Surgical Day Care.
Team Development:
- Mentor staff, participate in new hire orientation, and conduct performance evaluations in partnership with management.
Quality & Safety:
- Ensure adherence to recovery protocols, infection control standards, and professional clinical guidelines.
Resource Management:
- Monitor and maintain inventory levels for essential PACU supplies and equipment.
Other Duties
- Perform additional duties and undertake special projects as assigned
Corporate Responsibilities:
- Participate in all mandatory training requirements and work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, company Policies and Procedures, as well as established industry guidelines.
Education, Skills &
Qualifications:
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
- Critical Care certificate required
- Minimum of 3–5 years of nursing experience in a PACU or critical care setting (ICU/ER)
- Prior experience as a Charge Nurse or Team Lead is highly preferred.
- Certifications:
BLS, and ACLS are required - Strong clinical assessment skills and sound judgment under pressure.
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
- Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check/vulnerable sector check
- Provide proof of Immunization and TB records
