Police Chief – City of Richmond Hill, Georgia
The City of Richmond Hill, Georgia is seeking a new Police Chief to join the Richmond Hill team. The city is a quiet family community located just minutes south of metropolitan Savannah. The population of more than 19,800 residents keeps the community small‑town charm while offering a high quality of life. The city descends to a low crime rate and offers outstanding educational opportunities, community services, recreational facilities, and beautiful scenery.
Richmond Hill is a rapidly growing community in the southern portion of Bryan County, the fastest‑growing county in Georgia and the sixth‑fastest growing county in the United States (2020 Census).
The City Charter empowers the Mayor and Council to appoint a City Manager, who has served for fourteen years. The Police Chief is recommended by the City Manager and reports directly to him. The Police Department has about fifty full‑time and two part‑time employees with an annual general‑fund operating budget of $6.9M.
ResponsibilitiesThe new Police Chief will:
- Commit to serving on the City’s leadership team and exemplify ethical standards, collaboration, and a proven record of leading a professional police department demostrarated through effective supervisory and management strategies. Be a forward‑thinking, strategic leader who promotes quality customer service, operational transparency, and active community engagement.
- Build community trust by developing partnerships with stakeholders, using proven law‑enforcement best practices, and remaining accountable to Richmond Hill citizens.
- Guide the department through challenges and opportunities of a growing community while implementing the policies and directives of the Mayor and Council.
- Bachelor’s degree required in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Law Enforcement, Police Administration or related field; master’s degree preferred; with a minimum of ten (10) years of progressive police experience, including five (5) years in upper‑level police management, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Completion of a law‑enforcement training program such as the FBI National Academy, Northwestern Center for Public Safety’s School of Police Management and Command, the Police Institute’s Administrative Officers Course, the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute for Police or the IACP’s Leadership in Police Organizations course, or a comparable program.
- Must possess or acquire within 12 months of hire a valid Georgia driver’s license, Georgia P.O.S.T police‑officer certification, and Georgia Chief certification.
The starting salary range is $105,000 – $130,000 (depending on qualifications) and is complemented by a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental and vision insurance; a defined benefit retirement plan with five‑year vestนะนำ; 457 Deferred Compensation and 401(a) plans with city matching; paid time off (personal and vacation); short‑term and long‑term disability and life insurance; and negotiable relocation expenses.
