This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by supervising the operation, maintenance, and repair of all buildings and infrastructure for the Richmond Campus facility. The Chief Engineer II (CE II) supervises a staff of Stationary Engineers (SE).
The CE II will work with a concentration on the Corrective and Preventative maintenance of the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and Lab renovation projects for the Richmond Campus. The incumbent plans and oversees the operations of the HVAC Renovation and Building Operations Unit. Duties and responsibilities include planning, directing, and organizing the activities of the unit staff and assisting the CPO III.
The incumbent works under the Chief of Plant Operations I (CPO I) of the Engineering Teams Section.
This position is eligible for the Greater Bay Area Facilities Recruitment and Retention pay differential which provides an additional five percent (5%) of the base pay for each qualifying pay period.
In July 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025. This program temporarily reduces employees’ monthly base pay in exchange for paid leave credits. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits through June 2027. The salary ranges shown on this job posting do not reflect the salary reduction.
