Lead Poisoning Prevention Public Health Nurse | PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE II, JC-503169
Position:
Lead Poisoning Prevention Public Health Nurse (Public Health Nurse II) located in the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). This permanent, full‑time position supports the department’s Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Branch (CLPPB) and works to protect California children from lead poisoning.
The incumbent will perform complex, sensitive public‑health nursing activities related to the prevention and management of lead exposure in children.
Responsibilities- Provide direct case management and coordinate services for children with lead poisoning or exposure risk.
- Manage and oversee case‑management partnerships with other agencies.
- Develop care‑management policies, procedures, and materials.
- Collaborate with Public Health Medical Office (PHMO) II on medical provider outreach in jurisdictions without a contracted lead‑poisoning prevention program.
- Conduct home visits, investigations, and care‑plan development; travel up to 60% of the time, including occasional overnight stays.
- Valid California Registered Nurse license and valid certificate as a Public Health Nurse.
- Experience in public health field nursing and case management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other agencies and disciplines.
- Interest in serving a diverse, multicultural population; bilingual English/Spanish desirable.
- New to California State Service:
Must pass the Public Health Nurse II examination. - Current state employees:
Must be eligible to transfer or list entry by passing the examination. - Temporary Authorization Utilization (TAU) appointments available for candidates who meet minimum qualifications but lack certification; TAU up to 9 months, with permanent appointment contingent upon exam completion.
Eligible to telework up to three days per week; required to report in person to the designated headquarters office at least two days per week. Telework is subject to departmental policy and California residency is required.
Salary- Range A: $7,701.00 – $10,135.00
- Range B: $8,405.00 – $11,076.00
