The Railroad Switchman plays a critical role in safely and efficiently moving railcars within the terminal. The position requires strong physical strength, attention to detail, and dedication to operational safety.

• Monitor and operate track switches to ensure proper alignment for railcar movement.
• Inspect track conditions and switch points to identify issues affecting safe operation.
• Couple and uncouple air hoses between railcars as part of train assembly or disassembly.
• Replace damaged or broken railcar connectors (approximately 75 lb).
• Communicate with train crews and yard personnel to coordinate rail movements.
• Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of PPE.
• Maintain awareness of surroundings and potential hazards in a high‑traffic rail environment.

• 2–3 years of rail experience desired; switching or conductor experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to follow safety requirements and practices consistently.
• Reliable, punctual, and a strong work ethic.
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Physical ability to lift up to 75 lb and climb ladders and stairs both on and off railcars.
• Must pass pre‑employment background verification, physical, and drug screening. (

• Prior experience in rail yard or switching operations.
• Familiarity with rail safety protocols and procedures.
