The role of the Massage Therapist is to integrate bodywork in the form of massage therapy as an adjunct healing modality. The massage therapist is responsible for providing relaxation or treating body pain and discomfort through physical touch and muscle movement. The massage therapist is expected to meet with clients to obtain medical history, symptoms, and goals to create a personalized therapy plan.
OverviewOf Responsibilities
- Interviews clients to obtain medical history, symptoms, and treatment goals.
- Actively listens to clients regarding their preferences.
- Recognizes and responds to non-verbal communications.
- Ability to adjust techniques to meet client needs.
- Develops treatment plans for each client personalized to include the type of massage that will be most beneficial.
- Uses a variety of massage techniques to treat medical conditions and injuries as well as for relaxation and overall wellness.
- Provides guidance on stretching, strengthening, relaxation, and improving posture.
- Maintains treatment records on each client documenting conditions and progress.
- Maintains clean and sanitary massage space as required by infection control policies.
- Maintains a calm, peaceful environment that lends to healing and wellness.
- Maintains professional boundaries with clients.
- Obtains informed consent prior to beginning therapy.
- Understands all spa services and products and incorporates into therapy recommendations as appropriate.
- Functions as a member of the spa team.

Education & Experience- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Successful completion of accredited massage therapy program required.
- Associate degree preferred.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience.
- Active Massage Therapy Professional License – Indiana required.
- National Board Certification in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) preferred.
