About The Position
Under the direction of the Provider(s) and Practice Supervisor/Manager, the Medical Assistant is the first point of care in the medical practice. This position assists the Provider(s) with patient procedures and may perform routine laboratory tests. This individual works hand‑in‑hand with the Provider(s) to achieve quality outcomes for the patient.
Overview of Responsibilities- Demonstrates ability in taking patient vitals, performing injection/immunization procedures, charting and documentation, exam room preparation, infectious waste handling, knowledge of sterile techniques, triage incoming telephone calls, routine lab procedures and collection.
- Oral communication skills needed to develop patient rapport, discuss orders with patients and patient’s family, pharmacies, message taking and communicate effectively with patients regarding the course of their care.
- Written communication skills necessary for charting and documentation. Must be able to write legibly and demonstrate spelling competency.
- Demonstrated ability in handling patient confidentiality.
- Ability to work with peers in a team situation.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
- Demonstrate a functional and technical understanding of applicable scheduling and billing software, Intranet and Internet usage, E‑mail Usage, and Web‑based applications.
- Demonstrates ability to connect on a human level, at a minimum making eye contact with and greeting patients, families, visitors, and staff.
- Shows courteous interactions, including correct voice inflection and positive body language.
- Demonstrates empathy by acknowledging and validating patient’s situation or experience (e.g., “It must be hard to…”, “It must be difficult to…”).
- Appropriately uses therapeutic touch to calm and comfort.
- Willing to work hard; offers to help others when own work completed. Sensitive to needs and workload of entire unit/department.
- Shows willingness to take ownership; uses “I” or “we” rather than “they” or “them”. Blame is not directed at others.
- Demonstrates compassion by ability to “walk in someone’s shoes” – get to their level, understand where they are and what they’re feeling, and help them get to where they want to be.
- Assumes accountability for professional growth.
- Shows ability to use imagination, because if you can’t “imagine”, you can’t “connect”, and if you can’t “connect”, you can’t display compassion.
- Must be committed to Patient Satisfaction and Patient Safety.
- Assures that day‑to‑day patient care proceeds in an efficient, safe manner.
- Routinely meets the culture of every patient every time regarding the patient experience by utilizing AIDET principles and making that connection with patients.

Education & Experience- Education Required:
Successful completion of a Medical Assisting course or EMT certification will be considered for MA I position. Those who hold completion of Registered Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant (RMA, CMA, CCMA) will be considered for MA II position. - Education Preferred:
Associate degree. - Experience Preferred:
One year experience in a medical practice. - Other:
Applicant with at least 12 months clinical experience as an NCA/CNA/PCT may complete the NCA to MA onboarding program to obtain job title of MA I within the organization.
