Job SummaryEffective operation, repair, and changeovers of production equipment, ensuring safety compliance, equipment reliability, and production productivity. Core duties include safety compliance, high equipment reliability and uptime, maintenance procedures, data collection, housekeeping, problem solving, and continuous improvement within a work team.
PrincipalDuties & Responsibilities
- Troubleshoots, repairs, and preventive maintenance (PM) to ensure equipment reliability.
- Completes work orders as scheduled and documents them in SAP promptly.
- Reviews equipment instructions, blueprints, electrical, and pneumatic schematics to determine test specifications, procedures, and solutions.
- Assists Operations and Engineering teams with root cause analysis to diagnose equipment failures and breakdowns.
- Records test procedures and results, makes recommendations for product or method changes.
- Fabricates machine parts as needed.
- Co-ordinates with teams and planners to ensure proper PMs are scheduled in SAP.
- Maintains spare parts inventory and restocks plant supplies.
- Audits work order completion and effectiveness.
- Trains and assists in the changeovers of automated equipment.
- Completes all regulatory and compliance documentation accurately.
- Participates in structured group activities for line/area performance improvement (e.g., autonomous maintenance, housekeeping, problem solving).
- Works with operators to support production and transfers skills to Operation technicians.
- Complies with Hill’s policies, safety standards, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and Food Safety; reports Food Safety issues to management.
- 1+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing plant or an Associate’s Degree in a related field.
- 3+ years of manufacturing experience.
- Practical knowledge of basic maintenance shop equipment.
- Problem assessment, problem solving, and basic math skills.
- Intermediate computer skills in Google Suite and Microsoft Excel.
- Technical certificate in an industrial related field.
- 1+ years of manufacturing experience with emphasis in industrial maintenance, mechanics, and electronics.
- Experience using electronic maintenance work order systems.
- Previous SAP experience.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Previous similar manufacturing experience (food, pet food, pharmaceuticals).
- Ability to work an off‑shift schedule, including weekends.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work on weekends.
- Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair operating equipment during production and breakdowns.
- Review blueprints, project instructions, electrical & pneumatic schematics during troubleshooting and repair.
- Utilize maintenance shop equipment: drill press, lathe, mill, welding, etc.
- Bend, climb, crawl, and work in confined spaces for up to 12 hours per day.
- Work in extreme temperature ranges.
- Handle hazardous materials.
- Lifting up to 50 lbs continually.
- Operate forklift intermittently for up to 12 hours per day.
- Use computer keyboard intermittently for up to 12 hours per day.
- Walk unlimited distances daily; climb ladders or ledges with tie‑off equipment when required.
- Wear required personal protective equipment.
- Perform tasks in dusty or noisy environments while wearing hearing protection.
