Wastewater Technician

Veolia Water Technologies, Inc. Dayton is seeking a Wastewater Technician to work in the Richmond, IN area. The position is part‑time, approximately 24 hours per week.

• Maintain complete operational coverage of the Hills Pets Nutrition Wastewater facility throughout all scheduled shifts.
• Primary shift designation is Day Shift (Part‑Time): 8 hrs/day, 3 days/week (Tue, Thu, Fri). Coverage of additional shifts may be necessary and is strongly encouraged.
• Collect and test water samples to determine concentration levels and impurities.
• Maintain accurate record‑keeping of client data such as residual content of chemicals, water turbidity, and water pressure.
• Operate and control electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate flow of water into the Wastewater treatment plant.
• Collect and test Wastewater samples on the designated testing frequency.
• Comply with all Veolia and Hills Pets Nutrition safety parameters/programs.
• Analyze lab data to uncover potential treatment issues and implement process changes to prevent non‑compliance.
• Coordinate with other operators to maintain plant equipment.
• Consult with Hills Pets Nutrition and Veolia management on plant operations and treatment strategies.

• Coordinate with Hills Pets Nutrition to schedule third‑party maintenance support for all maintenance projects outside of Veolia’s scope of work.
• Complete all preventative maintenance as defined by Veolia and Hills Pets Nutrition management at the designated frequency.
• Document all preventative maintenance tasks (e.g., filter changes, oil changes, greasing bearings, operating temperature checks, valve exercises).
• Assist in completing minor maintenance projects (e.g., chemical pump repair & replacement, small PVC piping installation, valve replacement, AOD pump repairs, check‑valve cleanouts).

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace required.
• Strong mechanical aptitude preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
• Operational experience with site‑specific equipment preferred (e.g., EQ Tank, DAF, pH controls, Sludge Tank).

The work environment is a wastewater treatment plant and outdoor setting. Job holders may be exposed to extreme weather, chemicals, dangerous machinery, dirt, dust, electrical hazards, grease and oil, loud noises, vibrations, steam, high moisture, and other hazardous conditions. The role requires lifting or carrying up to 75 pounds, climbing a vertical ladder up to 30 feet, standing for long periods, walking on uneven surfaces, bending, climbing onto and exiting a forklift safely, using extension ladders daily, and maneuvering into tight spaces.
