CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to advocate for abused and neglected children. Volunteers stay with each case until it is closed and the child is placed in a safe, permanent home. The CASA volunteer is the constant adult presence in the child’s life while the child is in the court system.

Independent research has demonstrated that children with a CASA volunteer are substantially less likely to spend time in long-term foster care and less likely to re-enter care.

• Serve as the voice of a child currently in the court system and focus solely on what is in the child’s best interest.
• Monitor and advocate for the child and provide a stable, constant presence in the child’s life.
• Provide the Judge with carefully researched background details about the child to help the court make informed decisions.
• Determine what is in the best interest of the child and make recommendations on placement; follow through on the case until it is permanently resolved.

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Willing to commit 5-10 hours per month for 1-2 years with the organization.
• Complete a background check as part of the application process.
• Participate in a 30-hour training series.
