Job Summary /Basic Functions

The Emergency Medical Care program in the Department of Fire Protection and Paramedicine Services at Eastern Kentucky University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning January 2026. Applicants should hold an earned Master’s degree in a related field at the time of appointment. Possession of a Paramedic license is also required.

This position serves one of the nation’s premier undergraduate paramedic education programs. It requires current licensure as a Paramedic by the Kentucky Board of EMS, Kentucky Paramedic Educator Endorsement, a minimum of three years of recent experience as a practicing Paramedic, and demonstrated ability to teach and assess both cognitive and psychomotor domains in an EMS education environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering both cognitive (lecture) and psychomotor (skills lab/simulation) instruction to undergraduate paramedic students in accordance with the National EMS Education Standards, EKU’s curriculum guidelines, and CoAEMSP accreditation requirements.

The successful candidate will primarily teach undergraduate emergency medical care related courses online and on campus in a 4/4 annual teaching load, develop and maintain an active scholarly agenda, and participate in service to the department, industry and the university.

The University places a high priority on being leaders in the responsible use of artificial intelligence and in building such capacity in our students. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of artificial intelligence pertinent to the discipline and/or a willingness to pursue professional development to acquire such expertise.

This is a nine-month academic appointment with the potential for summer teaching or administrative duties by separate contract.

Minimum Qualifications Education
  • Master’s degree in a related field at the time of appointment.
  • Completion of a Paramedic training program.
Experience
  • Experience teaching at the college or university level, especially in CoAEMSP-accredited programs.
  • Familiarity with simulation-based education, scenario design, and debriefing.
  • Knowledge of CoAEMSP accreditation processes and standards.
  • Experience using clinical tracking platforms such as FISDAP or Platinum Planner.
  • Minimum of 3 years of recent experience as a practicing Paramedic.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and assess both cognitive and psychomotor domains in an EMS education environment.
Licensure & Certifications
  • Current licensure as a Paramedic by the Kentucky Board of EMS.
  • Kentucky Paramedic Educator Endorsement.
