Job Overview

D&E Landscaping and Grading, Inc. is looking for an experienced Shop Mechanic / Yard Organizer to join our dedicated team. This role is essential in ensuring our field crews stay productive by maintaining and repairing our fleet of small engine equipment, light trucks, trailers, and specialized landscaping tools. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled, self‑motivated critical thinker who thrives in a dynamic environment and takes pride in keeping equipment in top shape and operations running smoothly.

Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostics, service, and repairs on small engines, lawn mowers, trailers, light/medium‑duty trucks, skid steers, mini excavators, and snow/leaf equipment.
  • Maintain and organize shop and yard inventory, including tools, parts, fluids, fasteners, and consumables.
  • Manage seasonal prep and servicing of equipment (e.g., salters, lawn mowers vacuums, snowplows).
  • Perform minor welding and light fabrication as needed.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized shop and equipment trailers.
  • Record all repairs, parts orders, receipts, and service logs accurately.
  • Load customers with yard materials and assist in locating parts and sourcing.
  • Inspect and maintain trucks and trailers daily; identify and prioritize urgent repairs.
  • Coordinate with management on larger purchases or projects and submit documentation accordingly.
  • Stay up‑to‑date with maintenance best practices and attend at least one educational class per year.
  • Pick up broken field equipment, repair or service equipment in the field, switch out equipment as needed to keep field operations running.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in equipment and light vehicle maintenance.
  • Skilled in small engine repair, mechanical diagnostics, vehicle lighting, and light welding/fabrication. Large engines, transmissions, hydraulic pump teardowns are not expected and usually are sent to another shop.
  • Familiarity with landscape tools and seasonal equipment (snow plows, leaf vacs, etc.).
  • Valid chauffeur’s license with a current medical card required.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Self‑motivated, organized, and detail‑oriented.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Comfortable adapting to seasonal demands and shifting priorities.
  • Must wear high‑visibility vest and steel‑toe boots while on duty.
  • Must adhere to OSHA safety standards and D&E conduct policies at all times.

Work Schedule

Full‑Time – Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Pivoting hours may apply when due to demands of equipment needs. Must arrive 5 minutes prior to scheduled start time. Flexible to accommodate urgent repairs or seasonal demands.

Work Location

Onsite – Shop and yard location servicing projects throughout 3 counties.

Compliance & Safety

A background check will be completed as part of the onboarding process, in compliance with applicable laws. All mechanics must wear proper PPE and follow OSHA guidelines. Company tools and trailers are for business use only and must be maintained in a safe and organized condition.
