Prospect Blue is partnering with an established organization in the construction and rail services industry to identify a Controller to lead its accounting operations. This individual will oversee day-to-day accounting functions, financial reporting, cash flow management, budgeting, and internal controls while ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial information.

The Controller will play an important role in supporting business operations and strategic initiatives, improving accounting processes, and providing financial insight to senior leadership. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can balance the big picture with the details, take ownership of the accounting function, and lead a team in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, billing, collections, general ledger, taxes, fixed assets, and budgeting.
  • Lead monthly and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate, timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
  • Manage cash flow, daily banking activities, forecasting, and short- and long-term financial analysis.
  • Maintain ownership of the balance sheet, profit and loss reporting, revenue estimates, expense allocations, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain effective accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and reporting processes.
  • Monitor financial and operational performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and provide meaningful financial insights to support business decisions.
  • Oversee financial and project accounting activities in support of operational goals and strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure accounting records are accurate, properly supported, and maintained in compliance with applicable requirements.
  • Coordinate audits and the annual financial review with external accounting partners, along with tax filings and business licensing requirements.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor accounting team members, establishing clear expectations, providing regular feedback, and supporting professional growth.
  • Partner with the CFO and senior leadership team to support financial planning, business objectives, and overall company performance.
  • Promote a collaborative, accountable, and solutions-oriented team environment while maintaining a focus on accuracy, efficiency, and deadlines.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 10 years of related accounting experience, with prior leadership or management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience overseeing a broad range of accounting functions, including general ledger, reconciliations, budgeting, cash flow, and month-end close.
  • Ability to analyze complex financial information, identify discrepancies, and develop practical solutions.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Experience improving accounting processes, implementing internal controls, and driving operational efficiency.
  • Proficiency with accounting systems and financial reporting tools; experience with Timberline, Viewpoint, or similar platforms is a plus.
  • Construction, rail, project-based accounting, or related industry experience is preferred.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively with employees, vendors, external partners, and senior management.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable taking ownership of responsibilities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Reports to the CFO.
  • Oversees a team of accounting professionals, including accountants and functional managers.
  • Minimal travel, with occasional visits to other company divisions or attendance at professional meetings and training.
  • Must be comfortable working additional hours as needed to meet business and reporting deadlines.
