Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:30 AM – 5 PM. The position will require one late night per week.

Job Description

Under the direction of the Office of Military and Veteran Services, the Veteran Center Coordinator (Center of Excellence Veteran Student Success) manages, directs, plans, and organizes many aspects of the College’s Center of Excellence in the Veteran Student Success Center. It works collaboratively with other student service offices, central school certifying officials, and Office of Military and Veterans Services personnel to provide a coordinated effort to support veteran/military students.

This position is grant‑funded. The position will report to the Annandale campus and may be required to work at an alternative office location when necessary.

Duties and Tasks
  • Administrative duties for the veteran programs and efforts related to the onboarding/recruitment and retention of military veteran students
  • Planning and executing program activities
  • Maintaining detailed project records
  • Compiling data and submitting required reports
  • Overseeing departmental ordering and expenditures
  • Working with campus staff and volunteers
  • All applicants must reside in Virginia, Maryland or District of Columbia.
  • Special assignments may be required to perform other duties as assigned.
  • May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, and anticipate and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to accurately perform detailed work with numerical data utilizing prescribed procedures.
  • Ability to research, investigate, analyze, reconcile, and evaluate data and apply professional principles and standards for recordkeeping.
  • Ability to communicate with a diverse public and to handle complex situations under pressure.
  • Ability to work on a one‑to‑one basis with students.
  • Ability to interpret and apply the Virginia Community College System (VCCS), Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and college policies and procedures as they relate to student services and faculty support.
  • Ability to interpret and explain academic and administrative policies and procedures.
  • Ability to interact and advise students of diverse backgrounds and with personal issues that may hinder academic success.
  • Ability to solve problems using strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast‑paced student environment.

  • Student program planning to support student educational goals.
  • Program planning to support activities related to the retention of at‑risk, first‑generation military veteran students.
