Summary

VCU Strategic Enrollment Management and Student Success and the Office of Admissions is searching for a motivated and dedicated Receptionist. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admissions for Campus Visitation, the Receptionist provides excellent customer service to all guests who visit the VCU Welcome Center and the Office of Admissions at Ritter-Hickok House. The position is responsible for handling a high volume of calls and emails and interactions with prospective students, incoming students, and their support systems each day.
We are currently filling two vacancies with this recruitment.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Customer Service (55%)
    • Answers multiple telephone lines (approximately 10) timely and accurately.
    • Assists prospective students and others who are requesting admissions information or general university information.
    • Engages with guests by providing publications, answering questions, and making referrals to counselors or other offices.
    • Records phone messages and requests.
    • Checks in prospective students visiting for daily information sessions, tours, and group visits.
  • Administrative Support (25%)
    • Displays, stocks, and updates resource materials in the Welcome Center.
    • Opens and closes the receptionist areas each day (voicemail on/off, doors opened/locked, etc.).
    • Assists in supervising student workers and in training new employees and student workers.
    • Assists other areas in admissions with special projects and special events, and takes initiative to seek additional work during slow periods.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Data Entry (20%)
    • Enters data into the prospective student database in a timely and accurate fashion.
    • Enters data regarding admissions recruitment events into databases.
Other Position Details

This is a 100% in‑person role performed on the VCU Monroe Park Campus. Some evening, weekend, and winter‑break work is required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school degree or GED.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to assist and work with customers over the telephone and in-person.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and Google Suite software.
  • Strong data entry skills.
  • Experience multi‑tasking and working in a fast‑paced, customer service setting.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree completed or in progress.
  • Experience with a customer relations management (CRM) system.
  • Experience working in a university or college student service center.
  • Extensive knowledge of admissions policies and procedures.
  • Experience working with students and parents.
  • Experience answering a high volume of phone calls.
  • Must be available to work some evenings and frequent Saturdays.
Salary Range

Up to $35,500.
