Work Shift: 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. / Mon. – Fri.
Summary
The Safety Manager assists the Director, Loss Control and the Project Team in supporting safety controls, processes, and procedures to prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, and biological agents or ergonomic factors. This position provides on‑the‑job experience in inspections, accident/incident investigations, and enforcement of laws and regulations governing health and safety.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesInclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Oversee and manage safety compliance contractually and within Federal and State laws for various project sites.
- Lead and oversee the investigation of accidents to identify causes or determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future.
- Conduct site safety inspections or evaluations of workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
- Provide education and training in safety-related content.
- Update Health And Safety Plans (HASP), Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and other safety documentation as needed.
- Manage safety data entry in the safety management information system (SMIS) for injury reporting and other required reporting.
- Administrative record keeping of Fleet Program and related records.
- Coordinate safety training, toolbox talks, and ensure appropriate training certifications and experience for all employees (field and office).
- Assist with scheduled and unscheduled safety audits at job sites; enforce safety program and report safety violations.
- Assist with daily safety checklists for tools, equipment, and materials and fleet as needed.
- Promote a zero-accident environment and lead by example.
- Assist with coordination of drug and alcohol testing as needed and within policy and contractual requirements.
- Meet background check and fitness-for-duty requirements as set forth by projects/customer requirements.
- Possess a valid state driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor's degree in health and safety and/or environmental or related discipline.
- 5-10 years of experience in a safety-related department or field in the construction industry.
- Familiarity with HASP and JHA.
- OSHA 30-hour construction safety or equivalent; maintain competency through 24 hours of safety coursework every four years.
- Familiarity with construction industry regulations and practices.
- CHST, STS, OSHA 500 are a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Working knowledge of project and financial software is a plus.
