Technical Writer

Summary / Objective

Shaw Systems is a national software development company that has an established record of solid financial performance and an excellent reputation for providing quality products. We are seeking a motivated individual to work as a Technical Writer I with our credit-based financial software products that run on multiple platforms. Experience in the banking or the auto finance industry is plus.

• Write and edit documentation for a wide range of franchise business audiences including manuals, procedures, policies, user guides, training materials, and other documentation for a variety of uses.
• Write, rewrite, and/or edit documentation, communication, and reference materials for a variety of projects and purposes.
• Work with subject matter experts and team members to ensure that written product communicates information in a clear, appropriate, and applicable manner.
• Analyze feedback provided by clients and determine how to best integrate that with our existing bank of content to meet client needs.
• Review published materials and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding.
• Provide a high degree of quality assurance by reading documents objectively and closely for structure, coherence, logic, tone, and style and ensure end products meet client expectations.
• Organize material and complete writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
• Maintain records and files of work and revisions.
• Edit, standardize, or make changes to material prepared by other writers.
• Organize, plan, and prioritize work utilizing project management and communication tools.

• Communicating effectively as appropriate for the needs of the audience
• Ability to write in explanatory and procedural styles for multiple audiences
• Must possess solid organizational and detail-oriented expertise and the ability to handle numerous projects at one time
• Manage numerous projects with frequent interruptions and shifting priorities while meeting deadlines with minimal supervision.
• Experience in financial lending would be helpful

• Intermediate level knowledge of content management systems (Mad Cap Flare preferred)
• Intermediate level knowledge of Adobe Acrobat Pro
• Intermediate-Expert level knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
• Exposure/Knowledge of JIRA/Confluence would be helpful

Bachelor’s Degree majoring in Technical Writing, strongly preferred.

This position may work from any of the following locations:
Hybrid office schedule if within 75 miles of the Houston, TX or Richmond, VA office. Remote with the ability to travel at least 5% from the following states:
Texas if more than 75 miles from the office location, Virginia if more than 75 miles from the office location, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Michigan, New Jersey, Minnesota, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Utah.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

This is a full-time position. Days of work are Monday through Friday. The daily schedule may vary from 7 am – 4 pm, 8 am – 5 pm or 9 am – 6 pm, and occasional after hours or weekend work may be required. Hours may vary or exceed 40 in any given week depending on the needs of the business.

5 - 10% domestic travel required to either Shaw office location.
