Chair - Pediatric Dentistry - School of Dentistry
Join VCU School of Dentistry as the Chair of Pediatric Dentistry.
Duties & Responsibilities- The Chair will examine the operations of the department and the relationship to the institution and patients.
- Provide leadership for the educational, scholarship, patient care, and service mission of the department and the School of Dentistry.
- Collaborate with VCU, VCU Health System, and Children’s Hospital of Richmond to provide outstanding patient care and continuing education for VCU Dental students.
- Serve on the Board of VCU Dental Care and oversee clinical staff operations for VCU Dental Care.
- Provide leadership and management of department faculty and staff, including annual review, mentoring, and tenure review.
- Handle departmental academic and clinical financial affairs and ensure compliance with policy.
- Interface with VCU Health System, Department of Pediatrics, School of Medicine, and Children's Hospital to support teaching and clinical services.
- Teach medical, dental, graduate, allied health students, residents, fellows, and colleagues; prepare instructional materials and maintain professional skills.
- Provide clinical service and maintain a pediatric dentistry practice; integrate students or residents as appropriate.
- Support and participate in research and scholarship; maintain a personal research focus appropriate to rank.
- Represent the department and school by serving on committees, professional organizations, and community service activities.
- Dental degree (DDS/DMD or equivalent).
- Certificate in Advanced Education in Pediatric Dentistry from an accredited program.
- Previous experience in an academic or hospital environment.
- Eligible for licensure as a dentist in Virginia.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to change, embrace modern technology, and foster a respectful, professional environment.
- Demonstrated ability to incorporate adult learning theory, evidence‑based oral health care, and critical thinking.
- For tenure‑eligible positions at the Assistant Professor rank, established research agenda and potential for external funding.
- For tenure‑eligible positions at the Associate Professor or Professor rank, well‑developed scholarly/research portfolio with evidence of multidisciplinary applications and external funding.
- Advanced degree (MS, MSD, or PhD).
- Certification by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
- Education or experience in cleft lip and palate, special needs children, interceptive orthodontics, sedation/anesthesia, hospital dentistry, private practice, public health dentistry, community‑based clinical service, or school‑based programs.
Employees working in or with VCUHealth must comply with all relevant health system policies and procedures, including vaccination requirements.
Three recent letters of reference, or contact information for at least three references, will be required for consideration.
