Physician - Nocturnist

Base pay range: $/yr - $/yr

Summary
Skilled Physician - Hospitalist at Richmond Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Nocturnist Hospitalist can practice all types of Inpatient Medicine including direct care for patients under Observation or Acute Status and patient care in collaboration with ICU primary teams for patients in Progressive or Intensive Care Units.

Qualifications
Meet basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Basic Requirements

  • United States Citizenship
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or equivalent
  • Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State
  • Residency Training: completed residency training approved by Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to board certification
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Preferred Experience:

    BLS/ACLS required, Internal Medicine Board Certified or Board Eligible required
  • Physical Requirements:

    meet physical standards for the position (lifting 15-44 pounds, pushing, reaching above shoulder, walking and standing)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Attend on inpatient resident teams. Provide close supervision and education of internal medicine residents and medical students.
  • Admit and provide direct care for patients assigned to the Medical Service ensuring continuation of medical care and disposition plans.
  • Admit patients and provide patient care in collaboration with ICU primary teams during covered ICU shifts.
  • Provide consultation services for General Medicine Consults and intra-facility/inter-facility transfer requests to the Medical Service in a timely fashion.
  • Respond to Rapid Responses and Inpatient Code Strokes. Respond to Code Blues after hours.
  • Ensure updated hand offs to transition care at shift changes. Provide back-up coverage.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement projects and educational activities for residents and medical students.
  • Work Schedule:

    Nights on a variable schedule.
