Department SummaryThe Department of Neurology has a talented, robust team of more than 70 faculty members spanning nine divisions includes representatives from every neurology sub-specialty in adult and child neurology, plus award-winning educators, clinical and translational neuroscientists and master clinicians.
Mission or Goal of UnitThe mission the Division of Neuro-Ophthalmology is to provide state of the art comprehensive patient centered neurological care for adults, perform translational and clinical research to further understanding of disease mechanisms and develop new treatments, and train the next generation of neurologists and clinical neuroscientists.
Chief Purpose of this positionThis position is an Open Rank (rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications) full-time faculty position in the Division of Neuro-Ophthalmology. The faculty member will provide patient care, engage in medical student and neurology resident and fellow education, and participate in clinical research.
Position ResponsibilitiesPrimary clinical responsibilities include care of patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Faculty member will teach medical students and house staff. They will be expected to organize and develop a series of formal conferences for the house staff and students emphasizing issues in movement disorders. They will attend weekly Grand Rounds and lecture upon occasion as requested.
The Division of Neuro-Ophthalmology is engaged in clinical and translation research projects. The faculty member will be expected to participate in, and when appropriate lead, clinical research and clinical trials.
Faculty member will serve on departmental, School of Medicine, and/or University committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field, e.g. reviewer, conference organizer, etc.
- MD/DO or MD/PhD degree (or equivalent)
- Successful completion of a neurology residency at an accredited institution
- Successful completion of Neuro-Ophthalmology Fellowship
- Eligibility for licensure in Virginia and board certification or eligible in Neurology (ABPN)
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
