MissionOur vision is to be the premier orthopaedic provider in central Virginia. We aim to provide superb clinical care, educate the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons, and expand the orthopaedic knowledge base through research and evidence‑based patient care, with a focus on non‑operative sports medicine services for the health system.
Chief Purpose of PositionDirectly care for patients in the orthopaedic non‑operative sports medicine service line. Improve quality and efficiency at VCU Health System, provide prompt high‑quality care, and mentor residents, fellows, and faculty. Collaborate with hospital staff and other departments to provide multidisciplinary care.
TeachingStaff inpatient services with learners (medical students, interns, residents). Use contemporary adult learning methods, demonstrate effective teaching skills, and complete learner evaluations in a timely manner.
ResearchParticipate in clinical and administrative research, including performance improvement initiatives or externally funded investigations. Serve as principal or co‑investigator and maintain scholarship consistent with academic rank.
ServiceWork with institutional staff and administration to attain VCU Health System’s strategic objectives, including patient safety, satisfaction, public perception, and fiscal health.
ClinicalManage patients presenting through the orthopaedic non‑operative sports medicine service, co‑manage patients on other services, triage ED patients requiring admission, and provide coverage 24/7. Comply with institutional policies for credentialing, documentation, and billing, and collaborate effectively with the inter‑professional team.
OtherEnsure compliance with all regulatory and reimbursement requirements.
Qualifications- M.D. degree and appropriate certification/eligibility for orthopaedic non‑operative sports medicine.
- Successfully completed an accredited fellowship in orthopaedic non‑operative sports medicine.
- Record of scholarly publication in peer‑review journals.
- Demonstrated teamwork and effective communication (verbal and written).
- Experience managing complex orthopaedic non‑operative sports medicine cases and competence in standard inpatient procedures.
- Solid understanding of the orthopaedic non‑operative sports medicine role and interest in teaching and growth in academia.
- Commitment to fostering professionalism, civility, and respect within the diverse faculty, staff, and student population.
- Interest in furthering the research, scholarly, and academic missions of the group.
