Mission or Goal Of Unit

The Department of Ophthalmology at the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center supports a large health system providing both primary and tertiary care. As academic physicians in the evolving field of ophthalmology, we strive to improve the vision and eye health of all people by excelling in patient care, education and research.

Chief Purpose Of This Position

The Department of Ophthalmology at the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center welcomes candidates to apply to this exciting new opportunity for an Ophthalmologist specializing in corneal / refractive surgery. The position is responsible for direct patient care and supervision in three outpatient settings that include the Main Campus, Richmond V.A. Medical Center, and suburban ASC locations. The department supports a 16 resident ophthalmology training program with a full 5-year ACGME Accreditation.

A Physician Practice Group compensation plan provides an opportunity for a competitive, market-based salary. The position will be offered at an academic rank commensurate with qualifications.

Position Responsibilities

The candidate must maintain high clinical and ethical standards that will be carried into decision-making processes, adhere to compliance measures, establish and promote an atmosphere of unity through collaborative practice and effective communication between all staff disciplines, and foster a high level of patient and staff satisfaction. Residents and certified ophthalmic medical technicians assist with patient care and ancillary testing.

Qualifications
  • Board Certified/Board Eligible in Ophthalmology, with Corneal subspecialty training
  • Eligibility for, or a current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Excellent diagnostic and surgical skills required
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
