Mission or Goal of UnitThe Virginia Commonwealth University, in collaboration with the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, has built the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Division into a model division dedicated to academic excellence in clinical care, teaching, and research. The division provides outstanding training in infectious diseases for medical students, residents, and subspecialty fellows, and generates new knowledge through both clinical and basic science research projects.
ChiefPurpose of this Position in Support of Above Mission or Goal
The Division of Pediatric infectious Diseases in the Department of Pediatrics at the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), Children’s Hospital of Richmond (CHoR) is seeking a full-time, physician-scientist faculty member at any level (Instructor, Asst, Assoc and Full Professor). We are in an exciting growth phase in the Department of Pediatrics, building innovative research that advances discovery and application of discovery to improve children’s health.
The ideal candidate will have a track record of peer-reviewed publications and successful grant/contract funding. We welcome all types of research including basic, clinical, translational, epidemiologic, or outcomes. The preferred candidate will thrive in an environment that focuses on teamwork, collaboration, team science, dedication to patients, families, faculty/ fellows, and advancing the field of Infectious Disease. Candidates should have advanced training in research and a commitment to mentoring.
- Teaching: Faculty member will have teaching responsibilities. Faculty member will provide teaching and mentorship to medical students, Residents, Chief Residents, and Fellows when applicable.
- Research: Faculty member will have advanced knowledge in research methods and be able to participate in either basic, clinical, translational, or outcomes research. Faculty member will have experience in securing revenue through grants and contracts and will serve as a research mentor to other members of the division and the Department of Pediatrics.
- Service: Faculty member will serve on departmental or School of Medicine level committees when appropriate, and engage in professional activities through journal review, conference presentations, etc.
- Clinical: Faculty Member will provide clinical support within the Division of Infectious Diseases in support of the clinical mission of CHoR of VCU Health System. Subject but not limited to, inpatient and outpatient consultation for children with suspected infections, or infections that are complex, chronic or recurrent, or particularly difficult to diagnose or treat.
- Other: Faculty member will take on administrative duties associated with this role. It is also expected that this individual will maintain all required certifications for themselves and their laboratory personnel such as CITI and IACUC training certificates.
- Board certified or board eligible in Pediatric Infectious Diseases
- Experience with clinical care of patients
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
- Experience in an academic medical center
- Preference will be given to applicants with clinical or basic science research experience and the ability to apply for and obtain early career awards from the NIH or other funding agencies.
