Description
This full-time, on-site position offers an outstanding opportunity for entry-level physicians to begin their career in a supportive and clinically rich environment, working alongside experienced gastroenterologists and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals.
As a Locum Gastroenterology Physician, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care, performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and collaborating with our team to manage a diverse range of gastrointestinal conditions. This position is ideal for a motivated physician eager to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced clinical setting while contributing to the health and well-being of the Richmond community.
Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations, including medical history reviews and physical examinations for gastrointestinal concerns.
- Diagnose and manage a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions, including acid reflux, irritable bowel syndrome, liver disease, and inflammatory bowel disease.
- Perform and assist with endoscopic procedures, including colonoscopies and upper endoscopies, under supervision as needed.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on evidence-based medical guidelines.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as lab work, imaging studies, and biopsy results.
- Document patient encounters accurately and promptly in the electronic medical records (EMR) system.
- Collaborate with nurses, specialists, and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Educate patients and their families on gastrointestinal health, treatment options, and preventive care.
- Participate in on-call rotations and provide coverage for inpatient and outpatient consultations as required.
- Stay current with the latest advancements in gastroenterology through continuing medical education (CME).
- Maintain compliance with all medical, legal, and ethical standards set by the practice and regulatory bodies.
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
- Valid and unrestricted medical license to practice in the state, or eligibility to obtain one prior to start.
- Completion of an accredited residency program in Internal Medicine or a related specialty;
Gastroenterology fellowship training is a plus. - Board certification or board eligibility in Gastroenterology is preferred.
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact compassionately with patients and families.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage a busy patient load.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications are required.
- Eligibility to work in the United States as a physician, including appropriate visa status if applicable.

24-hour call shifts
Setting:
Inpatient
Patient Volume: 1 per day
Must be able to cover GI emergencies, including advanced/ERCP procedures
Support Staff: NP
Board certification required
