- Ability to plan, develop, implement, publicize and evaluate visual art programs, events, art exhibits, resident and professional, and some recreational programming.

- Ability to make decisions and choices independently.
- Ability to deal tactfully with residents, staff, contracted instructors, venue personnel, visitors and the general public.
- Ability to lead and motivate residents to explore new experiences to enhance quality of life.
- Familiarity with recreational and art resources, artists, art educators in the Richmond area.
- Experience coordinating and developing arts programming.
- Experience executing art exhibits.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation or related field, or combination of education and experience to fulfill the requirements.
- Experience working in recreation, arts or related field.
- CPR, AED and First Aid Certification.
Education and Experience
- Active participation in a professional organization or association related to recreation/arts/education.
- Experience planning arts workshops, exhibits, programs and events.
- Experience working in a retirement community.
- Exhibit excellent customer service and interpersonal skills: patience, compassion, tactfulness, and flexibility.
- Ability to make sound decisions based on objective analysis when under pressure and/or in adverse conditions.
- Embrace and show compassion through patience with and understanding of residents.
- Create a high‑performance work environment in which staff works together to complete tasks.
- Identify and challenge work processes and work toward continuous quality improvements; contribute new ideas and methods for improvement.
Plan and provide the overall operation of the Visual Arts programming that facilitates residents’ optimal social adjustment and successful community living.
Major Accountabilities / EssentialJob Duties
- Plan, develop, coordinate, publicize and evaluate visual art and woodshop programs, classes and exhibits and events appropriate to current and future resident interests and their changing needs.
- Teach and instruct classes in the absence of instructors or to teach particular techniques.
- Coordinate contract art instructors’ hiring, supervision and compensation for instruction of weekly classes and workshops.
- Assess recreation visual arts expenses to include supplies, trips, programs, events, exhibits, supply fees and equipment; work closely with supervisor and Foundation staff to utilize resources available to bring quality creative opportunities to Westminster Canterbury Richmond.
- Execute the annual Fall Craft Fair and/or other opportunities such as pop‑up tables from start to finish.
