The VCU School of Education's Department of Teaching and Learning is committed to fostering a positive environment for faculty, staff and students. The University Based Teacher Educator is responsible for instructing, coaching and supervising student teachers during their practical clinical work in school settings in the greater Richmond area.

Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe University Based Teacher Educator (UBTE) plays a pivotal role in the field experience for the teacher candidate. They serve as an ambassador for VCU School of Education and support the success of the school based teacher educator (SBTE) in their role with the intern. As such, they are expected to do the following:
This includes the orientation at the start of each semester AND the monthly UBTE meetings (via Zoom) as well as individual check-ins, as needed.
Successful completion of all duties outlined above will factor into rehiring decisions.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
- Must hold a valid Virginia Collegiate Professional Certificate and Virginia Teaching Endorsement in one of the following areas:
Art Education, Music Education, Special Education, Elementary Education, High School Science, Math, English;
History, and Middle School Education. - At least 3 years of successful classroom teaching experience.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, in particular the ability to work well with students and faculty.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer literacy including ability to use spreadsheets and online preforms.
- Experience working with culturally and economically diverse populations.
- Proficiency with Zoom or other virtual platforms.
- Self starter with the ability to work with little supervision.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse learning environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctorate in content area and previous higher education teaching experience.
- Experience mentoring in an education setting.
Salary Range: $700 per 1 student
