Substitute Teacher (Part-Time, Variable Hours) The Village Preschool – Carytown, Richmond, VA

Position Overview:

We are seeking flexible, caring, and reliable Substitute Teachers to join our team! Substitutes at The Village provide essential classroom support when regular teachers are out, ensuring that our students continue to enjoy a warm, engaging, and consistent learning experience. This is a part-time position with variable hours—ideal for college students, graduate students, or caregivers with weekday availability between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Follow established daily routines and lesson plans to provide consistency for children.
  • Engage with children through hands-on play, storytelling, art, music, and outdoor exploration.
  • Supervise children during meals, rest time, and outdoor play to ensure their safety and well-being.
  • Communicate effectively and positively with staff, children, and families.
  • Maintain classroom cleanliness and organization, leaving spaces ready for the next day.
Qualifications:
  • Experience working with young children in a preschool, childcare, or camp setting preferred.
  • Enthusiasm for play-based learning and supporting children’s natural curiosity.
  • Ability to adapt to different classrooms and age groups (toddlers through pre‑K).
  • Reliable, punctual, and flexible with scheduling.
  • Must pass a background check and meet all Virginia state licensing requirements.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Physical Requirements:
  • Active engagement with children throughout the day (standing, sitting, kneeling, lifting up to 30 lbs).
  • Comfort working both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
