VCUarts Adjunct Instructor - Department of Dance and Choregraphy

Overview

VCUarts Department of Dance + Choreography is recruiting a pool of applicants on an ongoing basis for possible adjunct teaching positions. The Department will consult the adjunct applicant pool and contact qualified applicants whose credentials match our specific teaching needs on an as-needed basis. This pool will only be assessed when an adjunct opportunity arises. Possible adjunct opportunities could include teaching courses in any of the areas of study offered by the Department of Dance + Choreography.

Adjunct faculty are expected to be enthusiastic ambassadors for the Department and to work with a student population from all backgrounds in a collaborative, learning-centered community of instructors, students, faculty and staff.

• Respond to adjunct opportunities as they arise by meeting the needs of the department and demonstrating relevant teaching knowledge and experience.
• Contribute to a respectful, professional, and civil learning environment for students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
• Provide teaching in one or more areas of expertise as opportunities become available (e.g., Ballet, Modern, Hip Hop, Ballroom, Yoga, Screen Dance, Composition, Choreography, and related areas).

• Appropriate teaching experience and/or strong oral presentation and communication skills.
• Demonstrated experience fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences.
• Demonstrated skills and experience in one or more areas of expertise in Ballet, Modern, Hip Hop, Ballroom, Yoga, Screen Dance, Composition, Choreography and other relevant areas.

• Master's degree in Dance, Choreography, or a related field, or BFA with equivalent professional experience and training that equates to a terminal degree in the field.
• Willingness to teach in both in-person and online formats.
• Willingness to recruit as needed, assist with semesterly assessments, and support the department’s vision and student growth.
