Salary: $42,000 - $48,500 (commensurate with experience)
Location: Virginia Beach – 810 Tidewater Community College, Tidewater Community College Division Tidewater Community College (Div)
Work Schedule: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, Monday – Friday (hours vary for Lead Teacher)
Telework: No (subject to change)
Position Classification: Future teacher trainer/instructor, Non‑exempt, Eligible for emergency/essential duty (report to work during campus closures)
Job Summary: The Lead Infant/Toddler Teacher provides overall leadership and oversight in the Infant/Toddler suite at the Virginia Beach Campus, caring for children 6 weeks to 2 ½ years. The role supports daily operations, program evaluation, customer relations, and ensures compliance with state licensing and Virginia’s Unified Measurement System standards, as well as NAEYC standards.
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct care and support for children 6 weeks to 2 ½ years old.
- Develop and implement schedules, activity plans, and special events for the child development center.
- Communicate with children using approved child development techniques.
- Lead, mentor, and guide program assistants and student interns.
- Use program evaluation tools, risk assessment instruments, and national accreditation tools.
- Provide parents with daily verbal or written feedback about their children’s developmental progression and establish goals.
- Maintain competency in word processing, spreadsheets, and child development center management software.
- Lift and maintain up to 40 pounds for child care, health and safety needs.
- Active Virginia teaching license in early childhood education or early childhood special education.
- Ability to supervise children 6 weeks to 2.5 years.
- Knowledge of developing schedules, activity plans and special events for a child development center.
- Demonstrated communication skills with children.
- Ability to provide leadership, mentoring, and guidance to program assistants and student interns.
- Knowledge of program evaluation tools, risk assessment tools, and national accreditation tools.
- Skilled in providing parents with daily verbal or written feedback and establishing goals.
- Skilled in use of word processing, spreadsheets, and child development center management software.
- Ability to lift and maintain up to 40 pounds.
- Active Virginia teaching license in early childhood education or early childhood special education.
- Operation of a State Vehicle – No.
- No required travel.
- Limited between TCC campuses.
