Campus Within Walls Adjunct Faculty - Mathematics
Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) seeks a Part‑time Adjunct Faculty to teach Mathematics in the Campus Within Walls program—providing higher education opportunities to incarcerated students. The role is based in multiple correctional facilities across the region.
Position Details- Location: Lunenburg Correctional Center, Nottoway Correctional Center, Baskerville Correctional Center, Virginia Correctional Center for Women, State Farm Correctional Center, and other facilities as needed
- Teaching Load: Up to 12 credit hours in fall and spring semesters, up to 8 credit hours in summer; load varies with enrollment and staffing needs
- Schedule: Day, night, weekend, and hybrid classes; classroom attendance may be required at specific sites
- Travel: Some travel between facilities; access to a state vehicle or mileage compensation is provided
- Plan, prepare, and deliver mathematics instruction to inmates enrolled in associate degree and certificate programs
- Adhere to course deadlines, submit grades and required reports on time
- Assist the agency or state government as needed during emergency declarations
- Maintain a professional rapport with students, staff, and external constituencies
- Perform other duties as assigned by the college or state department
- Master’s degree in Mathematics, or a Master’s degree in any teaching field with at least 18 credit hours of post‑graduate study in mathematics
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record
- Experience with instructional technology and Learning Management Systems such as Canvas
- Excellent interpersonal and near‑native oral and written English skills
- Capacity to design and execute effective teaching strategies in a setting without internet access
- Ability to meet college deadlines and maintain regular attendance per the site/course schedule
- Pass Virginia Department of Corrections background screening
- Pass transfer learning outcomes requirements and adhere to VCCS student learning outcomes
- Prior experience teaching in a community college or higher education setting
- Prior experience working in a correctional center
- Professional experience with People Soft or similar registration software
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Salary commensurate with education, experience, and VCCS guidelines. The position is part‑time with varying credit hour allocations.
