Job Description: Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) seeks a motivated 9‑month English faculty member to teach 100 and 200‑level undergraduate English courses. The successful candidate must be committed to SVCC’s mission to provide quality education to the Southside Virginia community constituency.

Workload varies based on teaching load, generally totaling 15 credit hours in the fall and spring semesters, with a combination of daytime, evening, and occasional weekend classes.

Location is on the Daniel Campus in Keysville, VA.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver instruction in multiple modalities: seated, online, hybrid, and dual enrollment settings. Classes may consist of a combination of day, night, and/or weekends and may be located on or off campus, in local high schools, correctional facilities, or other locations served by the college.
  • Maintain a teaching load of at least 15 credit hours in each of the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality course materials aligned with college standards and learning outcomes.
  • Support institutional advancement by assisting the lead faculty in program review.
  • Assist with classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to adjunct faculty.
  • Serve on college committees.
  • Participate in other professional activities as necessary.
Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in English from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Teaching experience at the college level.
  • Teaching experience with face‑to‑face and online/distance modalities.
  • Competency in the use of instructional technologies and Learning Management Systems.
  • Demonstrated record of self‑motivation, project completion, and success.
  • Experience working closely with others in a variety of different areas.
  • Willingness to work effectively with a culturally and educationally diverse student population.
  • Willingness to teach in off‑campus centers, high schools, and correctional facilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the mission of the community college and student success.
Additional Considerations
  • Five years of college classroom instruction experience with evidence of leadership and collaboration.
  • Experience working with community college students.
  • Experience with Open Educational Resources (OER) or low‑cost course materials.
  • Experience advising college students.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student engagement and academic success.
