Job Overview
Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Medicine is an academic medical center located in Richmond. The Department of Premedical Graduate Health Sciences Certificate Program seeks an hourly CERT Coordinator to support program operations, tutoring, admissions, workshops, and academic advising. The role is non‑exempt, pays $21 per hour and requires a background check.
Responsibilities- Provide administrative support for program needs and tutoring for courses such as ANAT 608, ANAT 611, ANAT 612, PGHS 505, PGHS 510, PGHS 601, and PGHS 602.
- Work with a permanent CERT Administrator and report directly to the CERT Program Director; coordinate a hybrid in‑person and online work environment.
- Serve as the first point of contact: answer phones and manage responses from the CERT email.
- Conduct tutoring: give course‑specific advising, exam preparation, practice problem explanations and monitor student performance; tutor at least one course per semester (approx. 2 h / week per course).
- Track incoming applications, maintain applicant contact, participate in admissions reviews and decision‑making for the 2025‑2026 academic year, and contribute to recruitment events and digital marketing.
- Design, implement, and manage pre‑matriculation orientation workshops, including registration, attendance tracking, documentation, scheduling, and coordination with workshop leaders.
- Advise current CERT students and recent alumni on course selection, add/drop/withdraw procedures, medical/dental school applications, MCAT/DAT test review, personal statements, interview strategies, and post‑CERT M.S. program applications.
- Coordinate interview scheduling and information transfer with VCU SOM, VCU SOD, and VCOM.
- Successful completion of the VCU CERT program with a 3.5 GPA or higher within two semesters.
- Demonstrated ability to foster an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility among diverse faculty, staff, and students.
- Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and strong data‑analysis skills are a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple workflows and comply with applicable laws and VCU policies.
$21 per hour; non‑exempt; hourly VCU employee; no benefits.
