St. Catherine's School is an Episcopal day school in Richmond, Virginia, founded in 1890 enrolling 946 girls age 3 through grade 12. Position OverviewThe Lower School After Care Teacher for Early Learners is responsible for creating a flexible program and environment designed to cultivate each student’s love of learning and personal growth. The teacher establishes rapport with students, maintains positive relationships with parents and other faculty/staff, collaborates with colleagues, and supports the school’s mission and core values. They remain current in best practice in education, particularly girls’ education.

Position StatusHourly, non-exempt, part-time, regular, 9-month
Hours of WorkUp to twenty (20) hours per work week.
Essential Responsibilities- Collaborate with and assist the lead teacher in setting up and maintaining the classroom.
- Support the flow of the day (including supervision during carpool, recess and lunch) and facilitate children’s learning as established by the lead teacher.
- Collaborate and plan with the lead teacher for learning experiences both indoors and outdoors.
- Assist with and lead small groups and team teaching.
- Share observations that will help the lead teacher with student evaluations.
- Work collaboratively with other faculty/staff members/support personnel (e.g., specials teachers, therapists, counselors, etc.).
- Establish and maintain relationships with families.
- Use protocols in alignment with the lead teacher regarding student behavior and growth.
- Develop personal and professional short and long term goals in partnership with the Director of Lower School.
- Participate in professional development programs as required by the School.
- Attend after school activities and events as required.
- Participate in regular grade level meetings, lower school faculty meetings, all school faculty meetings and faculty committees and mentoring student activities as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited university, or equivalent experience.
- Preferred but not required: experience in related field.
- Preferred but not required: ability to integrate technology into the classroom (e.g., Seesaw, Zoom, Microsoft Office, SMART Board, etc.).
The employee is required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to manipulate objects, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear, engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out, and smell. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Ability to become CPR and First Aid Certified.
Travel is not a requirement for this role.
